The Blue Chairs of Nice

The Blue Chairs of Nice along the Promenade des Anglais has become a symbol of the city.

Their history goes back to 1950. Until about 2010 the chairs was standing separate, but the risk of theft changes them to rows of 20 chairs.

At first they where white and made of wood and later they got the characteristic blue color and where made of metal.

The blue color is a homage to one of the sons of Nice, artist Yves Klein. He invented the color and it represents the sea and the sky above.
